Filemaker info for Access developer?

Featured Replies

Please forgive me if this is posted in the wrong spot. I'm somewhere between a beginner/intermediate Access developer (I have a strong understanding of relational database design).

I'm creating a filemaker database, and I'm thinking there MUST be some book or pdf out there targeted for folks just like me, that would describe some of the differences between filemaker and Access. (YES, I Have bought the Filemaker 10 book... The Missing Manual, but that really isn't filling the void I see).

Thanks in advance for any links and comments!

I known both - basically you can do anything in VBA but FMpro scripting is somewhat limiting. Queries are much easier in Access than in FM. In one sense, FM is like a gigantic Excel spreadsheet with the colums being all your calculations and the rows your records. Think of it that way.

I have read a lot of Filemaker books through the years, and I haven't really come across any that relate things back to Access.

If you are really strong in relational database design you might consider picking up the Filemaker 10 Bible. It focuses a lot on how you follow standard relational design in Filemaker, which tends to be a little more advanced than things covered in the Missing manual.
