TinBane Posted February 15, 2010 Posted February 15, 2010 I'm working on a database that is used in a production environment. One workstation in particular, is notorious for having 50+ FMP windows open, because they won't shut the windows when they are done with them. Is there a way to lock users out of background filemaker windows, until they have dismissed the foreground window?
bcooney Posted February 16, 2010 Posted February 16, 2010 Welcome "TinBane" to the Forums! The short answer is Yes, you can create a modal layout by using, New Window, Lock Status and Hide, Pause. Buttons on the layout Resume the calling script or Exit and start another script, However, it sounds like you have developed a multi-window system. I haven't had the need to do so in the systems I develop. In fact, if I design a popup window, it's always modal. Here's an example of a modal popup. PopupSelectDemo2_2.zip
TinBane Posted February 16, 2010 Author Posted February 16, 2010 That's fantastic. Modal windows fulfill the requirements of the database much better than standard 'live' windows. The only reasons the current windows are live, is because they were created that way, by someone else who presumably didn't know about modality. It's good to know the filemaker term for it too! Thankyou VERY much!
