If you create a couple of calculation fields, possibly incorporating a global to allow you to switch the date and relate these to the in/out section you can definitely have two portals for your diary.

It is just a case of getting the keys to work together.

You can relate one database to another by more than one key field. So one portal can be related by Date In, and another by Date Out.
