evan_panagiotopoulos Posted June 9, 2001 Posted June 9, 2001 Why don't they have a trial version of the Developer??? Do I really have to wait for a month for the purchase order to go through?? I WANT IT NOW! I guess I'll have to wait...
garhop Posted June 10, 2001 Posted June 10, 2001 Evan, You might use this approach. Check with File Maker, Inc first. You may be able to purchase the Developer edition, v 5.03 now and get a free upgrade to Developer 5.5 when it comes out. I say MAY. FMI can give you the info...get it in writing using e-mail. If that works, you will have your cake and be able to eat it also. Gary
Anatoli Posted June 10, 2001 Posted June 10, 2001 Download trial of FileMaker Pro 5. The developer is just with bits and pieces more and with RunTime engine. You can develop everything in FM Client.

Actually, this is not quite true anymore with FMD 5.5, there will be developer specific features not found in FMPro. You can get a preview of these important changes at the FMI DevCon. Also, don't discount the DevTool (ie runtime maker) It does things other than just create runtimes. It can rename files while updating the fm links in your solutions, enable kiosk mode (even for regular FMPro users), and provide added security against hackers for your databases. The Plugin API is significant for advanced developers able to take advantage of it (see any FMP plugin list on the web to see the potential). Previous versions were far from "mandatory" for Developers, but that is changing. I'd recommend ALL Developers take a look at FMD 5.5 when it comes out. Hope this helps! -Dave [ July 24, 2001: Message edited by: David McKee ]
Anatoli Posted July 25, 2001 Posted July 25, 2001 Sure David, you are right. I was just trying to shorten the waiting time... not to 100% replace the DEV version.
