Newbies rmharmon Posted June 14, 2001 Newbies Posted June 14, 2001 I have a client that has had a standalone application developed for them using FMP. She wants me to get into it (she has provided a password) and change thier logo, update thier images and info. My question is will I be able to do that if I purchased FMPDev?
MpWiedemann Posted June 14, 2001 Posted June 14, 2001 Hi Becky, As long as you have the full access password, and the original developer did not remove access to the design functions, you can open the bound files and modify them with a regular copy of Filemaker. The database files are the same as a regular Fm database except that they contain a "binding key" that ties them together. Hope this helps, Martin
Newbies rmharmon Posted June 15, 2001 Author Newbies Posted June 15, 2001 How would I know if the original developer left access?
MpWiedemann Posted June 15, 2001 Posted June 15, 2001 Just try to open the databases in a regular copy of Filemaker. Then try to get into Define Fields, Scriptmaker and layout mode. If you can get into these, then you have full access.
printit Posted June 16, 2001 Posted June 16, 2001 Beckey before you attempt to crack, unlock, modify or decompile that program I hope for your sake you have permission from the developers. I say this only because I’ve been developing a data base program in File Maker for the past 3 years and if someone just came along and changed the name and replaced a couple of logos, I would have a complete freak fit. I know this followup is very elementary, anyways have a good day.

If user did not paid for the full-unlocked version and the author copyrights that, then you have a point. What if the originator of that solution just disappeared? User should have some rights as well. What if the user did not settled honesty all bills?
Newbies rmharmon Posted June 19, 2001 Author Newbies Posted June 19, 2001 Just so all you developers out there feel better, my client owns the product. They have updated their identity and want to replace thier old logo with their new one. We're not stealing anything here.
