Hi we want to put in place a Filemaker Server for an office with 10-15 simlutaneous users, clients are Win XP (80%) and Mac OSX Tiger (20%).

Question. We are tilting to getting a Mac Pro also due to security reasons. Whats better? A Mac Pro or an equivalent Windoze machine? Perhaps a Server 2003/2008?

We would like a cost effective solution with raw speed.

Any Tipps what would be best? Thanks

Either will work, [color:red]provided it is properly configured.

I'd have 4 GB RAM, 3 physical SAS or UW SCSI drives, and a fast processor. Other normal server elements as well including dual NIC cards and redundant power.

Given that your is principally a Windows office, I'd go with a Windows OS server, either Server 2003 or Server 2008. Be sure correct SP's are applied. [color:red]Correct SP's, not necessarily the latest ones.

Out of curiosity; if I have a MacPro with multicore processors, or multiple processors (which I think are different things); does FM Server actually take advantage of both?

Same in the windows environment?

in Win Server 2003 which SPs are recommended?

Im always an advocate of the fact that the latest isnt necessarily best. Often the contrary is true.

thanks

FileMaker® Server 10 and FileMaker® Server 10 Advanced can take advantage of multiple core and processors.

Okay where do I find the list of correct SPs, not latest ones, to be applied for a Win 2008 Server situation?
