Scenario:

I insert an object into a container field as a link and displayed as an icon. I double click the icon in browse mode -- nothing happens. It is just a MSWord document and I have the application on my computer. I can double click it in layout mode and it opens seamlessly and I can right click it in layout mode and it opens seamlessly as well. Does anyone know why the application won't launch from browse mode? Any suggestions?

It sounds like you have the Word file placed on a layout as an object and not in a container field.
