Is there a way to get the computer's serial number, owner, IP address, etc. and store it into FMP? Client called today asking if I could create a networked DB that automatically logs all of their company's computer information (both Mac and PC). Internal system serial number would be very helpful to my client. Other aspects seem straight forward through filemaker (i.e., IP address and Disk can be called through Troi or equivalent plugin--this plugin doesn't read serial number unfortunately).

It seems like a plugin or scripting (Applescript and VBA possibly) would be required. I would like to avoid the Applescript/VBA route if possible. Any thoughts?

It'd need a plug-in -- dunno if there is one. On the other hand, existing "network management" software (like Apple Netwrok Assistant) can probably gather this information. Maybe it could then be exported/imported into FMP. Then again a toll like ANA is already pretty powerful and might do what you want straight out of the box.

There is a free Crypto plugin that does encryption and returns the disk serial #. Check www.fmfiles.com. Also www.fmplugins.com.

It's called Crypto ToolBox.
