I have Filemaker 10 set up on a new windows server. I have a sceduled backup set for each night. But every morning I get this message: Error 160 SERVER Schedule "Daily" was aborted; not enough free space on destination. There is plenty of free space on the destination drive. The destination drive is a usb external. Could this be the problem?

The destination drive is a usb external.

Possibly. Is the server being run with all users logged out?

The backup happens overnight when all users are logged out of the system.

No, sorry, I wasn't as clear as I could have been. Not FileMaker Pro client users logged into the database, but any user to the server logged out.

FMS should be run at the log-out prompt on the server and this can have some impact on external drives.

Sorry, I was out of town for a few days. I'm not sure I understand what you mean by "Filemaker Server should be run at the log-out prompt on the server." As far as I know, all users log out at the end of the day.

Steven means that the machine running FMS should be run with no users logged-in.

I made sure everyone was logged out at the end of the day yesterday. Still got the same error message today.

Looks like I have the situation resolved. I reformatted the drive and it works fine now. Not sure why but it is fixed.

Thanks
