importing from web site.. keep connection alive

Featured Replies

I'm guessing to post here...

I'm trying to see if there's something I can add to my script to keep it moving faster by keeping the connection active (??)

In short:

I'm downloading/importing XML thru the web

I'm using a looped script - input info in a custom dialog window (by barcode scanner which then activates the 'enter' button to continue the script) - download - pause and wait for next request.

The first request usually takes 5-6 secs to come back.

A 2nd, 3rd, 4th, etc. request if done within a very short period of time in between comes back in maybe 1-2 sec.'s

If I wait say 10 sec's or so to input and continue the script with a request that next request is like a 1st and takes 5-6 sec.'s to come back... sometimes 10+

I need to keep things moving quicker and wondered how.

Is there anyone with an idea? Can the connection be kept alive?

Thanks for ANY help.......

My guess (and that's all it is) would be that this is entirely up to the remote server and you have no control over it. Can't you enter all the codes first and process them later?

Sorry... got stuck doing actual work.

Thanks but no. This is done out and about on a small PC... basically while shopping for product.

So you may check several things quickly but then go a min. or 2 before checking again.

I thought about some kind of an MS service set to run at the beginning of the script to ping and then stop when you exit the script.

At least I THINK the problem is with keeping the internet connection a priority to any other processes which may be running or start to run.....
