shellScript trouble

i just can't get some command lines to work.

for example:

osascript -e 'tell application "Finder" to activate'

it works in the terminal, but scriptmaster produces a syntax error : unknown token. i tried various escape sequences but all failed.

can someone please help me out here ?

this works for me:

osascript -e "tell application "Finder" to activate"

does that mean to better generally avoid the (') character ?
