daverk Posted July 17, 2000 Posted July 17, 2000 I need to produce a database to be used by 10 to 20 users. Can I create my db in FM Pro and then convert it to a runtime with Developer and run it over a network on the local machines? That's how I would do it in Access. The documentation in Developer makes me think I can't do it. Is there a way to do this or do I have to buy FM for each machine. If so then what's the point of the Developer? Dave

Dave The point of the Developer Edition is for solution developers to be able to distribute or sell versions of thier solution to whom ever they wish, without the need for the end-user to have FMP. Personally, I would recommend running FMP Server and installing a site license for FMP on each workstation. Your performance will be significiently better, and this is really the way you should be running this kind of solution (no matter what the platform) I am also not sure if the new Developer Edition supports network file sharing. I do not use it. ------------------ =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Kurt Knippel Senior Filemaker Developer http://www.database-resources.com mailto:[email protected] =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=
amccallum Posted July 18, 2000 Posted July 18, 2000 Hi Dave FMPv5 runtime solutions won't allow networking... v4.1 runtime did. The point about using FMP Server and FMP on each machine to increase performance is a valid one especially when you are looking at having 10 to 20 users.
