Newbie here - helping a friend with an old FMP 4.1 application which is corrupt - "openprog" will not completly launch gets about 80% of app started then shutsdown

Have tried following fixes

a. replace openprog from oe vendor disc

b. install application to different partition copied all recent files (not original install files) to folder and launched - w/new openprog file - which failed

Have tried using 5.1 and importing data from old application - more crash and burn -

last bit you guessed it they have no backups!

Looking to get some insight on how to repair openprog.exe file - run a back up and look for a better application! Any help appreciated!

You need to recover the file in version 4, the two applications, 4 and 5 were written in different code.

If the file was not damage, version 5 would convert it without a problem.

In version 4, use the Recovery option under File (if I recall) and see if it can be recovered.

Is this a runtime built in FMP 4.1?

If it is then try opening the files in a full copy of FMP client -- not sure where to get one however.

The other bet is to try converting to a later version. Make sure you are converting the database itself (might have extension .USR) not the runtime executable.

That's a good thought, but why would a runtime get to about 80 percent open and then crash out?

afterthought:

They know that it is a v4 file (note they didn't say fp3), and a client version is working -- sort of.
