File References / Data Sources Noob Question

Featured Replies

I'm in a FM Server Environment, running Version 8, about to move to Server version 11.

Recently I noticed a bunch of odd File References (aka Data Sources) in my databases. So I started researching this.

I had a few files that had paths, which were wrong so I deleted.

But I couldn't figure out which was correct:

File:DatabaseName

fmnet:/*/DatabaseName

fmnet://DatabaseName

Can Someone confirm my theory?

- the "*" makes the file search the entire network for the file.

- Using the IP address is better than the * because it won't have to search the entire network

Is Using "File" be better than using the IP Address? It looks in the database's local directory (which would be on the server).

I hope I gave enough info. If not, I'll be watching the thread so I can reply to any questions.

Thanks in advance.

File:DatabaseName is correct if database name file is in same folder
