Musoguy Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 I apologize if this post is in the wrong section, but I think it belongs here. I am creating a solution to be used for a class sign up schedule where students will come to me to sign up for classes which I input into the solution. The problem is I am having to manually keep track of how many students are currently signed up for each class so I don't overload them. I have been trying in vain to figure out a way to have a field(/portal?) that shows me all the available classes, and how many students are currently signed up for them. This field would have to constantly update itself every time I add a student to a class. I'm pretty new to Filemaker, and this problem has been driving me crazy for a number of weeks now! I really hope it is a simple solution and someone can help :
Søren Dyhr Posted July 11, 2010 Posted July 11, 2010 While I in the other thread link you to a video showing a solution running both enrolment as well as assigning tutors and projects to each student. Must I know if you know that this is the most classical of classic relational setups, most of which is included in this template: http://www.kevinfrank.com/download/2009/dwindling-value-lists.zip Where he uses "Schedule" should yours be Class. But basicly are you depriving his solution from the "Allow creation of new portal rows" by putting it under script control ... which I have made provisions for by adding a + button next to the portal and attaching a tiny script. The reason for using Kevin's template here is to make measures to prevent assigning the same person twice as well. But take a look at my modification and see if it makes sense? Can you see why only 5 students can be assinged to each ...? --sd Dwindlingtwist.zip
Musoguy Posted July 12, 2010 Author Posted July 12, 2010 Thank you so much for your response. I will look into the link and your updated solution over the next few days, and let you know if i can figure it all out! Thanks again :
