Newbies VolKoeni Posted October 27, 2001 Newbies Posted October 27, 2001 Hi, when I want to connect to my FM 5 database with MS Access using ODBC I get the error message "to many indizes". So what's going on and what can I do? Thanks Volker
Newbies iamme Posted October 28, 2001 Newbies Posted October 28, 2001 Volker, From Filemaker tech info Article Number: 107228 -- 6.9. A Microsoft Access ODBC client will generate an error message when trying to perform a SQL import from a FileMaker Pro database containing more than 33 indexed fields. --
Newbies fmjorick Posted October 29, 2001 Newbies Posted October 29, 2001 strange, because I'm trying to generate a link in Access to a Filemaker file with 21 indexes and I'm getting the same error... Is this because of the version (FM 5.5 & Access 2000)?
kraftyman Posted November 9, 2001 Posted November 9, 2001 You may have to go over your FMP file and turn off all of the "turn indexing on if necessary" options. Are there any related files as well? It may be that these get included in the count. I have the same problem with my stuff. If you have Access, then you have Excel and MSquery. MSquery doesn't have this limitation.
Newbies Jamie Blowers Posted April 26, 2004 Newbies Posted April 26, 2004 Was this issue ever resolved? Is it possible that MS-Access can't handle more than 33 fields, no matter if they are indexed or not?
Newbies Jamie Blowers Posted April 27, 2004 Newbies Posted April 27, 2004 So here's the result of a quick test: using a FMPro v5.5 file with 32 fields, I can link it to MS-Access 2K via ODBC just fine. When I add one more field (thus making 33 fields), I get the "too many indexed fields" error (even though no fields are actually indexed). Conclusion (from a FMPro novice): MS-Access cannot handle more than 32 fields in a FMPro v5.5 file using ODBC.
