Hi Everyone,

I currently have FM10 Server advanced on a windows server. It is VERY unreliable and has to be restarted frequently. We are going to upgrade to FM11 Server advanced and we are also purchasing a new server. My question is which operating system is superior, OS X or Windows? I'm not asking which is better for everyday things and do not wish to start a war, just wondering which one will provide a more stable FM environment.

My other question is, can I also run FM11 Pro on the same machine? I would host it via FM server and access it from FM pro via the assigned IP address so it would not be an attempt to open the same file directly from both the server application and the pro application.

Thanks a bunch!!!!

Randy

FMS should not be unstable. It's very reliable. Have you tried to determine what is making the server unreliable?

IMHO the biggest deciding factor between Mac and Windows is which the system admins are most familiar with. Other than that, in the past Windows has offered the best performance but it has been close. This may have changed recently though with newer versions of FMS and OSs..

Our experience is about the same as Vaughan's. My personal preference for small installations is the Mac Mini server. We bundle this to new clients who do not have servers, or on site admin support. Beyond that most of our other clients use Windows based systems with no problems what so ever. FMS is very stable for us on either platform.
