August 17, 201015 yr Hey guys. Hopefully someone can help me out here... I am looking for a way to have my records sorted by default. I can press the sort button but when I go to a different layout and go back again they go back to the way they were before. How do I get my records to stay sorted by default automatically. Many thanks!
August 17, 201015 yr The records should stay sorted if all you're doing is going from one layout to another and back. In fact, in single-user mode, the sort order will still apply when you close and then open the file. So there's more to the story. But the permanent "default" sort in any version of FileMaker is the order that the records were created. A possible solution is to sort, export, delete, and import your records. Their default "unsorted" state will now be in the order you sorted when exporting. In FM 10 or 11 I might use a script trigger to sort when the layout loads.
