AdamZ Posted August 24, 2010 Posted August 24, 2010 (edited) I'm having a curious problem of not being able to connect my FMP 11 client (running on Windows Vista) to a FMS 11 installation (running on Windows 2003). 1.) I am able to connect to the server admin console via http://localhost:16000/admin_console_webstart.jnlp so I know the server is up and running and I can reach it. 2.) When I start my FMP client, I select Open Remote and try to connect to the sample database via fmnet:/localhost/FMServer_Sample but cannot connect. 3.) My colleages that are using Windows XP do not have a problem opening the sample database from FMP 11 on their machines. 4.) The correct ports are open on the server (specifically 5003 is open) 5.) Windows firewall is disabled on the vista machine as is TCP_IPv6. Anyone have any suggestions? UPDATE: So it doesn't seem to matter with Vista versus XP because another colleague on XP has the same issue. I think it's some networking setting, but I can't figure out which one. Both of us that cannot connect to the server also get the "FileMaker cannot share files because another user is already sharing files using FileMaker Pro on this computer" error when we open the database locally. Other users that can connect do not get that error on locally opening the database. Edited August 24, 2010 by Guest
IdealData Posted August 25, 2010 Posted August 25, 2010 1.) I am able to connect to the server admin console via http://localhost:16000/admin_console_webstart.jnlp so I know the server is up and running and I can reach it. Use the IP address of the server in the URL - NOT "localhost".
AdamZ Posted August 25, 2010 Author Posted August 25, 2010 I was using a "localhost" as a variable as to not broadcast the ip of my server over the forum. Yes, I'm using the correct IP, or I wouldn't be able to connect to the admin console. I also downloaded the Server Trial and put it on a Windows 7 machine on my local network. I'm having the exact same issue: can connect to admin portal, but not via the client.
AdamZ Posted August 26, 2010 Author Posted August 26, 2010 I found a solution to this on the filemaker.com forums. In case anyone else find this thread via googling or something... My problem had to do with the lack of a server.pem file in the filemaker 11 installation. Even after reinstall, there was no server.pem file. I downloaded the file from another thread and it worked. You could also copy it from a working installation.
