I have a friend who upgraded filemaker from version 6 to version 10. When I open the file that was converted into version 10 it seems to take ages to open. The file is not that big (10mgb). Is there any sugestions.

Yes... clean up any file references in the External Data Sources (if there are any). Otherwise check start-up scripts etc.

Depending on how old the file is, it may have used the Today function which the conversion process changed to a scripted Replace. This will be in the startup script.
