Dynamic Layouts

We are currently building a system that needs fields to appear on (or disappear from) a data entry layout based on the contents of another fields. So, if a check box is checked a few other fields will appear for the operator to fill in that are relevant to that check box.

I'm wondering if anyone has any clever ideas for doing this. Barring other suggestions we will likely use a portal to display the ancillary fields or conceal them. (I think this is a John Mark Osborne trick.) This will mean a lot of relationships (clutter to the ER graph) to accomplish this.

Conditional formatting won't work because of pull down menus on some of the ancillary fields.

The complex graph would not be needed with FileMaker 11 filtered portals.

I don't seem to know that feature. We are building in v11 but its our first native 11 system.

I'll have to check it out more closely.
