is there a preferred method to download email and put attachments directly in to SuperContainer - and make sure the script can be executed server side too?

The best way to do this is to store the email attachment in a temporary container field (a global container field works well) and then you can upload the attachment to SuperContainer using the Companion Plugin. This will work on both FMP and FMS.
