Exporting in XML variable filename

I'm using fm pro to export a single record in xml format which is "merged" with an xsl file and opens in word: I have got all that to work.

I want to be able to give the resultant file a name that will conform to a particular layout and so I want to pick up a value in the file and make that the file name: how do it do it?

I think the answer lies in the $variable filename parameter but I cannot get the syntax right.
