slbr549 Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 (edited) I am having an issue with adding a new record to a portal. I can edit records that show up in the portal, but am unable to add a new portal record as I get the message "field not modifiable." I have the "allow new records" selected in the relationship. The primary key in table 1 is related to the secondary key in table 2. I'm using FMPro Advanced 11 Windows 7, and FM Server advanced 11 Mac Snow Leopard server. I'm sure it is something simple, but I'm not figuring it out. Thanks. Edited November 4, 2010 by Guest
bruceR Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 What kind of field is the "secondary key" in table 2? It must be a standard indexable field, number or text, as appropriate to match the table 1 key.
slbr549 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 The secondary key is a calculation set to the number 1.
bruceR Posted November 4, 2010 Posted November 4, 2010 That's not going to work. As previously mentioned, when using "allow creation of related records" you cannot use a calc field for the match field. FileMaker needs to populate the field as part of the record creation process.
slbr549 Posted November 4, 2010 Author Posted November 4, 2010 Well, I feel like a complete idiot now. Must have had a brain blip earlier. Thanks for the help.
Newbies BBMAS Posted November 8, 2010 Newbies Posted November 8, 2010 I am having the same problem but both fields are text fields. I am trying to set up an event planning database where I have address and other info in one file and guest list in the other. I can bring the names over but I cannot add new records. I am using Filemaker 11 with OSx Snow Leopard. Do I have to set up the relationship both ways?
