Calculation based on Portal Field possible?

Hi I am relatively a newb with file maker and I apologize if I should know the answer to this question or if my database is way out of wack.

Is it possible to have a calculated field that is a combination of a field on the current record and a field on the related portal record? And if it is possible how can I do it? Or do I have to redesign the database.

Yes, it is possible. Assuming you want a different result for each child record (what you call "related portal record"), define the calculation field in the child table, and use the parent field in the calculation formula.
