FileMaker Pro 2 export to Oracle

Hi,

I wonder if anyone can advise me.

I have a series of FileMaker Pro 2 for Mac databases containing geological data that were setup and populated back in the early 1990s (200+ fields per database including check boxes and free text fields exceeding 255 characters).

I now have a requirement to export this data to Oracle. The export facilities in FileMaker Pro 2 are fairly limited so I was wondering, would it be easier to buy a Filemaker 5 licence ? Is there a direct export to Oracle from FileMaker 5 ?

Any help would be gratefully received.

Thanks, Simon

FMP 5 (Macintosh) allows export to tab- and comma-separated text, SYLK, DIF, WKS, BASIC, MEGE, HTMLtable, FileMakr Pro and Edition file. No mention of Oracle...

What is special about your database that export in tab- or comma-separated text cannot deal with? If you are concerned about losing text formatting, I don't think that any export will hold it.

Thanks for the info Vaughan. I think tab separated text is the way to go. Is there a way to export the data to include the field name ? i.e. produce spreadsheet-style pages with the field-name as the column title ? This is imporatnt for me as I have so many fields.

Try exporting in the Merge or SLYK formats, both of which should export Field Names as the first row.
