Do you know of any dot matrix printers that can work on an imac?

Probably almost all of the common ones IF you use Strydent Software's PowerPrint USB. This USB to Parallel converter supports hundreds of printers on the Mac. Take a look at www.strydent.com. In a former life this was the old GDT PowerPrint product (now updated for USB).
