[FM9 Server] server runs fine, no console :-(

We were still using FM 7 server on our server-1 running windows server 2003 SP2.

So i decided to install FM 9 server on our other server-2 also running windows server 2003 SP2.

After installing FM 9 server i copied our data to the new FM 9 server installation and the server runs fine.

BUT i cannot use the admin console. Im getting the message "The database server is not available. To edit server deployment, please start the database server first.".

The database server is allready running, clients can access the files just fine.

I tried diffrent java versions (v5 update 22, v6 update 3, v6 update 7, v6 update 25) but no success.

The first 3 java versions start the console and give the message above. The last one just crashes the console with a java error.

I do not have another FM 9 server in the network, just the FM 7 server (which i shut down). So thats not the problem.

And i removed all installations of Apache, just to be sure, because IIS is enabled.

Looks like it wants apache from the logs?

Anyone got an idea?

Did you un-install FMS 7 first?

Why would i? FMS 7 is on a different machine?

server-1 still has FMS 7 installed but shut down.

server-2 has the new FMS 9 running.

Do i really need to uninstall FMS 7 on the other machine?

My Spider-senses missed that vital information. :D

No need to uninstall FMS7 on the other box.

Are you trying to access the admin console from the FMS9 box itself or from a workstation?

See if you can launch it from the workstation directly, that would rule out any configuration issues on the server...

Was a bit harder to test (had java 6 update 24 installed and that doesnt work with the console).

But alas it does not work on a workstation with IE9 > http://192.168.6.10:16000/

Loads the java application just fine but then it says the same. "The database server is not available. To edit server deployment, please start the database server first."

How does the console rely on iis or apache?

Cause when i installed the server apache + iis were both installed.

When i had troubles i removed apache, maybe its still thinking in apache mode or something?

I will try a complete reinstall now that apache is removed. Maybe thats the problem..

you may not have to uninstall it - but are the two sharing a serial number? - If so, that may be the problem.

No, there completely diffrent licensing codes.

Posted

Unfortunatly a reinstall did not help anything, getting same error and filemaker hosts files without.

Next suspect, checking ports needed by filemaker i guess..

The console doesn't rely on either Apache or IIS, it uses Tomcat that is installed by FMS.

For web publishing, FMS can only work with IIS on Windows so it's good that you removed Apache.

Strange that a full reinstall didn't solve it. When you go to the java control panel, what versions of the JRE do you have installed and which one is active?

I have

JRE 1.6.0_03 C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_03

JRE 1.6.0_07 C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_07

System tab has _07 enabled, user tab has both enabled.
