I am currently running FileMaker 8.5 and I'm trying to restrict a certain field to only allow 9 characters. I work for a university and I'm currently using filemaker as a check-in for students and the problem is if a student has had more than one ID the scanner reads that extra number and we do not need it to do so because it will not properly let them check-in. Does anyone know how I can make this field only take the first nine characters?

Use another field:

Left (InputField , 9)
