Newbies mikewyatt44 Posted July 14, 2011 Newbies Posted July 14, 2011 Hi I have a client that I put SuperContainer into last year, they were insistant on using solely PC servers and .pdf files (you guessed it they are now fed up of having to view them via the Acrobat viewer so want to change to MacMini for the picture storage) Question - obviously the files are easy to move from one machine to the other and preserve the folder hierarchy, but what is the best way to generate the thumbnails which of course don't exist on the Windows server, is there a way to generate the thumbnail file structure without having to go through every record they have created and doing a reinsert? Regards Mike Wyatt
Smef Posted July 14, 2011 Posted July 14, 2011 Previews are generated when you view the document, not when you upload it. You shouldn't need to do anything to start getting pdf thumbnails once you make the move to the mac server.
Newbies mikewyatt44 Posted July 14, 2011 Author Newbies Posted July 14, 2011 Hi Thanks for that, that is the sort of news I like to hear (and rarely do with this client) :-) Regards Mike Wyatt
Todd Dignan Posted July 23, 2011 Posted July 23, 2011 Ok, I'm going the opposite way, from a mac to a pc. System: Windows Sever 8 R2 SuperContainers 2.8 Installed with FMS 11 Advance. I transfered the files from the mac to the pc....when I use the RAW url on them I get an error of 500. This does not happen with new files I've upload via supercontainers to the pc. pdf file icons appear for transfered files I have another issue with thumbnails issue not showing from the transfered files. Its like supercontainers in not seeing the files. I think its a permissions issue. I need help Thanks Todd Dignan
Smef Posted July 25, 2011 Posted July 25, 2011 SuperContainer stand-alone on mac is the only way you can generate pdf previews. You will not be able to get this feature if your SuperContainer server is running on Windows. Error 500 is a permissions issue, meaning that SuperContainer does not have permission to access the files. You may need to adjust permissions on the files you've transferred over so that you server is able to read and write to the directories. If you are using the stand-alone deployment you need to make sure your user has the correct permissions. If you are using the filemaker WPE deployment then you will need to make sure the filemaker server user has permission. FMS usually runs as SYSTEM on windows.
Michele Olson Posted July 28, 2011 Posted July 28, 2011 Along the same lines, I have a client who started using SC a year ago. They have a Mac server and SC is running on that Mac server. They have had some issues with the Mac and are considering outsourcing the FileMaker Server aspect of the deployment, moving to a vendor such as Point in Space. Can the separation of the SC storage and the file storage be managed? If so, can you offer pointers? Thanks, Michele
