August 9, 201114 yr I have a relatively small (152kb) database that is shared between two computers with an ethernet connection. The file is hosted on a brand new imac running OSX 10.6.8. The client station is a fairly old intel imac running OSX 10.4.11. The host has it's own Filemaker 11 license. The client is running Filemaker 10 Advanced. I am having a problem with intermittent lockup. When this happens the monitor displays an error message which informs me that: "Communication with the host has been interrupted and cannot be re-established. All effected windows will be closed." When I try to reboot the file another error message comes up: It says: "The maximum number of licensed users are using this copy of Filemaker Pro. Please refer to License Key section of your software documentation for further instructions"..... Both machines are properly licensed. Does anybody know what causes the freezing and/or what the source of this error message is?
August 10, 201114 yr It's not an intermittent lockup, it's a connection (network) problem. It could be caused by many, many things. Start with disabling the computer's energy saver putting the machine sleep -- both client and server. Second, check the network. FMP is VERY network sensitive. The most reliable and fast is wired ethernet. Wireless can be notoriously fickle: a couple of second's disconnection will be unnoticed for web browsing but may cause problems for databases.
August 10, 201114 yr Author Thanks Vaughan! I don't know why I didn't think about that. I will do that tomorrow when I go to the shop and report back how it works.
