Email from field shows actual email address and not sender name

Featured Replies

How would I make it so that the recipient of an email that was created in the Email plugin sees the name of the sender of the email and not the senders actual email address?

In other words, right now when a recepient looks at an email that was sent from Filemaker it shows:

From: [email protected]

I want it to display:

From: John Smith

Seems an easy enough question but I can't find anything in the docs saying how to format a from address.

I'll do a little bit of investigating on this, but I wanted to mention it might run into out-of-the-box because no all senders have a name associated with their e-mail. Sometimes it's just the address.

I am not familiar with the 360 Works plug-in but some ISP's do not allow you to change the From address. That is certainly the case in the UK and I am guessing it's the same in the US.

This may be irrelevant if you are using your own Mailserver.

The best chance you're going to have with it is to use "John Smith <[email protected]>". From there it falls on the recipient's client to show the information in a certain way. Most will just show the name, but there will still be some that show everything.

Yup, that's what I did. It looks like the 360Works Email plugin accepts either email alone or formatted email. If you don't include a first name and last name and just sent the email address alone it omits the "<>" and sends only the email address.
