GC GYM Posted August 19, 2011 Posted August 19, 2011 I currently serve over the LAN on TCP/IP and wireless with FMS on an i7 workstation running Windows 7 Professional to approx 10 FMP clients. It seems to work well. I would now like to also serve via IWP to customers over the internet (maybe 20 or 30 at a time max). I will therefore upgrade to FMSA and have been suggested to move to Windows Server 2008 R2 at the same time. Which version of Windows Server 2008 R2 should I get (ignoring purchase price)? My options are Web Server, Standard, Itanium, Enterprise or Datacentre.
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 20, 2011 Posted August 20, 2011 Windows Server 2008 SP 2 Standard Edition and Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1 are the ones certified for use with FileMaker Server 11 Advanced. See http://www.filemaker.com/products/filemaker-server/server-11-specifications.html for more information. Steven
GC GYM Posted August 20, 2011 Author Posted August 20, 2011 Thanks Steven, I should have read that more carefully. I noticed back around FM7 you wrote a book on IWP and mentioned in a thread the limitations of IWP. Have things improved since then, and for my purposes do you think Windows Server and IWP is the best way to go?
Steven H. Blackwell Posted August 21, 2011 Posted August 21, 2011 I wrote a book on FileMaker Security, not on IWP. I use IWP for clients a good deal, but as a supplement to, not a substitute for, FIleMaker Pro client. IWP works well for some things, not so well for others. Steven
