Barcode scanning - Best practice

Featured Replies

Hi,

We have scanned barcodes into FileMaker Pro client for years.

Our current process is:

1. bring up a custom dialog box with input field (the cursor is automatically placed in input field)

2. scan to an input field in the custom dialog box.

3. the scanner sends a CR at the end of the scan which 'clicks OK in the dialog box

4.the scan script does some background stuff

5. back to step 1

We are switching the solution to run on iPads in FMGo.

BUT... with FM Go, the behavior in Step 1 (above) is different. The cursor does not automatically enter the input field... you have to tap on the field first.

This makes our current scanning process clunky, since the user has to tap in the field between each scan.

There does not appear to be any way to control this behavior in FMGo or Manage Scripts...

I have some ideas about how to work around this. Can anyone save me some testing time and describe the best practice method they have found?

Thanks,

ft.

Did you see this? http://www.filemakermagazine.com/videos/the-separation-model-part-12-barcode-scanning.html

let me know if the technique (to return to the text field) turn out to be applicable to FMGo.
