Newbies namor Posted February 22, 2002 Newbies Share Posted February 22, 2002 does anybody know, if soft wrapping is possible in filemaker. i would like to output a book directly from a huge database (that would be ao smart) but i can't find out how to do the wrapping. i even would buy some 3rd party software to do this. also nice would be an automatic wrapping tool in different languages.... thanks for any help. greetings from zurich in snow. roman. Fitch
Not sure exactly what you mean by "do the wrapping," but... If you have your text in a single field, that is in a lot of records, you could put that field on a layout and stretch it as large as you think the largest amount of text is in that field on any given record. Now set the Sliding/printing of the field to slide up and reduce the size of the enclosing part. Make sure the size of the part is not much taller than the height of the field. Set the part to allow to break across page boundaries. Now view your layout as a list and preview. Is that what you wanted?
slstrother
You can do a lot with FM layouts, but it does have limitations. You do not have the same functionality as a page layout program such as Quark. We are producing health care provider directories on a daily basis directly from FM, but the client had to make some compromises on the layout. I believe there is a plug-in to export FM records with Quark tags. I'll try to find it again and post the link.
