Picture import over network

We have an odd problem. We have a large series of related files on a series of Mac (G4) servers. We must bring in chromatogram images from an old PC as a metafile (.wmf). If we pull the file across the network 10/100 baseT, the image loses resolution and will be blurred. If we put the image on a floppy (yes, we still use them), the image is sharp. Why?

Also, as a metafile, only a PC can see the image file on the floppy, but it would appear that once the image is in FileMaker, only a Mac can print it. The PC prints a blank where the image is. Curious.

I'm still a little unclear about exactly where the file loses resolution. I somehow doubt that the copying across the network is the problem. How are you viewing the image to indentify that it has lost resolution? If this is within FM and if you are importing the image and not just a reference, it is being converted to pict on import.

D V,

I am in no way an expert on graphics, but regarding the second part of your post it is possible that this is happening because you're using .wmf, which is designed for windows, and 16 bit at that.

.cgm is a metafile that is a crossplatform, not just for windows.

To answer questions posted: First, The image is being viewed within FileMaker (all machines use 5.0 w/ 5.0 server). The image seems to view with some degradation, but will not print clearly (completely unreadable). The image is placed in a container field. (not a reference to it.) The same image when copied from a floppy is crystal clear. It cannot be a Mac/PC issue, as the file is imported PC to PC or copied from PC to PC via floppy. (The Mac only prints it.)

Second: As to the .wmf file, we are limited to that file type owing to the HP Chemstation software.
