Is there a way to sort/resort portal data using a script?

For example: If I have a portal that shows Client, Product, and UPC information, can I set up one button for "Sort by Client," another for "Sort by Product," etc.? I know in layout mode I can choose how a portal sorts information, but is there a way to set up scripts so that the user can change how the portal sorts rows?

Yikes. I was afraid of that. I can't say that it's important enough to my design to make it worth the effort, it just would have been nice to have.

Where exactly is the "yikes" factor?
