Greetings,

I am new to FMPro and could use some friendly advice as my current task has me stumped.

Background:

I am using three independent database files (.fp7)

Contractor Contact Management

Project Database

Contractor Work Log

The project database and contractor contact management files are for internal management personnel use only, while the contractor work log will be accessible to multiple outside vendors.

Contractor work log:

Using relationships, I have been able to create dropdown lists to populate field data such as contractor name and company (from contacts data file) within the work log. Additionally, I created a portal to log multiple project names (from master projects data file) and the associated number of hours spent per project. The idea is to have the contracor "sign in" and "sign out" daily using this form to keep track of time spent and to which projects. The time spent should populate the Vendor_Logged_Hours field within the portal-type vendor list per project within the master projects data file.

So far everything works great, except my final objective.... I want to be able to keep a running sum of hours spent by each specific contractor (by company name) on each specific project. I've spent many hours to date on this without success.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I have attached the three files for reference.

Thank you.

Actually i just went in your database in Daily Work Log, Added a new field in your portal data TABLE

called it sHoursTotal and just made it a summary total of hours and voila it sums up all the hours worked

Without the running with restart. Just a summary field.

Try it.

Tried your suggestion and it does sum the hours, except:

  • the hours for all portal line entries are summed for each individual record

The intent is that each portal line entry refers to a unique project and hours should only be summed for each unique project. This is the sum I need to input into the "Project Database' file within its portal under the field "logged hours". The line item "logged hours" should be a cumulative sum of all hours entered for the specific "project record" per unique vendor.

  • I tried to use a summary field to get the total hours per vendor per project, but when I try to tie the summary field to the "Project Database" file in the relationship manager, the summary field is greyed out and not selectable....

Thank you for looking at it. Any other suggestions?
