March 8, 200223 yr Newbies I have a networked database that has a container field that contains a link to TIF files stored on a server. The problem is that if I establish the link with one computer it is only accessible by some computers on the network. The catch is, if I establish the link on one of our other computers, it is accessible to ALL other computers on the network. We are running combinations of version 4.0, 4.1, 3.0 and I initially thought that it was a forwards compatibility issue, but links established in 4.0 don't open in 4.1 on some machines, but they do on others. There appears to be no rhyme or reason. All PCs are mapped to the drive with the images. Any help greatly appreciated.
March 11, 200223 yr ------------------------------------------------- The problem is that if I establish the link with one computer it is only accessible by some computers on the network. ------------------------------------------------- The first recommendation I have is to make sure all PC's are mapped to the server using the same drive letter. If not, that could be causing some of the problems. If you are storing the file name and path to the container field, all PC's must be mapped the same. ------------------------------------------------- ...if I establish the link on one of our other computers, it is accessible to ALL other computers on the network. ------------------------------------------------- If you are mapping using the computer name instead of a drive letter, then this will work for all PC's because it is "calling" the specific computer not a drive letter. Hope this helps. Steven B www.myarcadia.net
March 12, 200223 yr Author Newbies Thanks Steven All the computers on the network are mapped to the drive using the same drive letter. I don't think it's a mapping problem because if it can't locate the file, Filemaker gives a message along the lines of "can't locate file, check path etc". The message I get with this one is "Can't perform action because source is unavailable". Trying to reestablish the link doesn't work even if you point FM at the file itself - it still claims it is "unavailable". I am establishing the link with a script. If I run this script on one machine the image in the container comes up as (semi) viewable image, I run the same script on another machine and it comes up as an icon. The icon one is the one that is accessible across the whole network. Could this be an OLE version problem? TIA
