duncandawg Posted September 5, 2001 Posted September 5, 2001 I'm a newbie to these forums, and I'm not sure if this is the best place to post this question, but here goes. I'm looking to develop a FileMaker solution, where a user can slide a card (in this case a Driver's License) with a magnetic strip, through a card reader, and have the data automatically fill in the proper fields in an FM database. I've built tons of FMP databases, but I've never connected a card reader to a Mac or a Windows machine. Anyone have any idea as to what's involved? I'm hoping this does not involve third party software to receive the data, then export/import using a script. I wish to keep this as simple as possible. I'm just not sure how the data comes INTO my FMP solution. Thanks. [email protected]
LiveOak Posted September 5, 2001 Posted September 5, 2001 I think at least a portion of these devices operate with a "wedge" approach where the scanned data looks like typing. As to whether the data on a driver's license is in a standard reader format, who knows? I did an Internet serach and came up with a number of hits. One that looked interesting was www.svbus.com. -bd
