Bar code printing

Hello,

I'm sure I am not the first one to ask this question, but have been unable to get a good answer. I need to know if it is possible to insert barcode fonts into a Filemaker Pro 5.0 layout. I assume that this would have to be a third party solution of some kind. This is for a manufacturing solution where multiple records are produced from a portal and use the auto enter funtion to create an identification number field that is unique and can be used to track that record. I would like the barcode to be used to enter the tracking number in the find mode as opposed to using the keyboard. I hope this makes some sense. Please let me know if anyone has any ideas. Thank you for your help.

You've come to the right place. We print barcodes in FM all the time. All of the one dimentional barcodes (Code 39, Code 128, etc.) are just system fonts you purchase and install like any other style font. The 2D symbologies (Maxicode, PDF417) are more complex than just a letter by letter translation and require a FM plug-in.

An internet search for "barcode fonts" should produce some companies selling fonts. Also take a look at the FM site, www.filemaker.com, under plug-ins.

If you need more information, post back, email me, or give me a call.
