Such trusting souls

Featured Replies

I'm finding it quite amazing that there are so many people that have put such a blind trust in updating critical database solutions without any testing whatsoever, and conversely I'm also finding it quite amazing that a company providing such critical software solutions would release a product in this condition.

The recent release of a new file format in Filemaker is a good example of this blind trust. Most of us that have used this companies products for years know they have a reputation of allowing their customers to do their debugging for them, and then offering these fixes as new features in future releases. Within hours of this new release there were posts on their own web site confirming speed issues by them. It seems to me this company is not dedicated to providing good quality commercial software solutions for its customers, but instead is providing new glitz features and is being pressured by economic issues to get these products released on time regardless of their performance issues.

Today people, more than ever, are trusting that update button or buying new revisions without giving any thought that what they are doing may have serious consequences.

I'm of the opinion that Filemaker is abusing this trust and simply throwing out these new formats with little regard for its existing customer base, only to pull in more new customers for features it has added to support new technologies.

I for one will not be downloading their new format solution, and encourage those that are now stuck take action to insure either the problems are solved in a timely manner or get a refund.

I believe its time to take these people to task for their past transgressions and keep pressure on them to meet your expectations. Software is a slippery slope when it comes to performance issues and I'm sure they will claim no responsibility, but keeping bad press alive is one way to insure those out there that have trusted these people get the corrective actions they deserve.
