Priveliges on a peer to peer network

Featured Replies

1) I want to create a three level password system for a peer to peer FileMaker network solution. Does the password level of the person who opens the solution on the file host determine access of guests who access the solution subsequently? i.e. if a level 2 person opens the solution first, can a level 1 user login with greater access?

2) If a level 3 user logs in with access to only 2 of the 6 files in the solution, will the relational data still appear in the accessable files even though the user does not have priveliges to open the parent file?

Any insight would be wonderful.

1) Does the password level of the person who opens the solution ... determine access of guests?

No.

Yes.

The user has to have at least enough access to open the related file, and to see the fields you want them to see. Note that if the related file uses a completely different password, and the user goes to a layout in the parent file that has related fields on it, the password dialog will come up. So be sure all the files in your solution contain all the passwords. By using the Groups feature you can limit access to specific fields and layouts, and with 5.5 specific records as well.
