Jagged PostScript Fonts

Featured Replies

I'm hoping someone here is good with font problems and can help me out.

I've got a file where the client wants a font on a print layout to be a particular font which we only have in a PostScript version. The printing takes place on a HP LaserJet IV. Every print with that font from FileMaker produces jagged results. If the font is a TrueType font, however, it's smooth as it should be.

What could the problem be? I tried installing ATM 4.6, but this resulted in PostScript errors.

Thanks,

Chuck

What happens when you print with that font from another program, like your word processor?

Test it now and find out.

I suspect the font prints out with the jaggies from any program.

Now print the font to another printer. How did it go?

I'm assuming you have both the screen and printer font in the fonts folder in your system? Because if you only have the screen font, your output will be jagged. If you own ATM Deluxe, you can load the font and do a report on it and it will tell you if the font is OK.

Chuck,

HP Laser Jet Printers don't always come with Postscript Interpreter Cards installed. Most often it's an option that costs as much as $1200 extra

(depending on the model). So If you are trying to print a PS font to a non PS printer that font will look jaggy. The solution is to stick to TT fonts until you get a PS printer.

That's my best guess,

G
