i'd like to duplicate a parent record including all the children so you can make changes to the children but keep the original.

all i can think of is a complicated hard-to-read script with a global to save the ID (serial number), marking the record, go back and forth... there must be a simpler way to do that!

can't say this looks more straight forward than what i was about to hack out on my own, although his multi hierarchy level approach is certainly more powerful.
