Hi

Our client has a firm policy that the system partition is backed up once a week in snapshot mode, and that C:Program File** is read only.

FMSA 11 places its databases, scripts etc. under C:Program Files (x86)FileMakerFileMaker ServerData.

To get the databases backed up daily, and to be compliant with windows server policies, we mounted the D: partitition under the path above.

Is there another way to get the databases off the program files directory?

Danger, danger, danger.

If you are running FM Server then the computer needs to be manage as a server and not like a common user desktop. There should be NO backup software running on it AT ALL.

Talk with IT and get them to set the machine up like a server and not a desktop.

The backup software will cause file corruption with the hosted databases. If you are new to FM Server then you might be tempted to blame FMS but thats not the problem. FMS when running on a well set up server is very, very stable and reliable.

You might try to set up scripts and things to stop the server to let the backup software do it's thing then restart it again but don't, that is not solving he problem. The solution is getting rid of the backup software or at least configuring it to ONLY backup the scheduled backups created by FM Server and leaving all other files untouched.

While you're talking with IT also get the virus software uninstalled. That'll be the next thing that causes problems.

What Vaughan said..

When you install FMS you can choose to install it anywhere you want, including on other local drives.

In addition to that you can specify an additional databases location once you have FMS installed (configuration setting in the admin console). So even if you must install on C, you can choose not to put any files in the "C:Program Files (x86)FileMakerFileMaker ServerDataDatabases" folder, and put all your files in the additional databases folder that you specify.

What Vaughan said. What Wim said. I'd recommend strongly that your IT people read the FileMaker Server Configuration Guide and learn how to set up and manage FIleMaker Server correctly. Or, alternatively, that you get someone into your offices who does know and who can set it up for you.
