Newbies Lyn Posted May 10, 2001 Newbies Share Posted May 10, 2001 I'm having trouble connecting my old Claris E-mailer (which I love) through a cable router (XRouter Pro). It works fine without the router. Does anyone know a remedy? I am on a Mac. [email protected] [ May 10, 2001: Message edited by: Lyn ]
BobWeaver
What's happening? Is it unable to find the mail server? Often, your ISP lets you configure your mail server simply as "mail" rather than the actual name such as "mail.netcom.com". However, when you add a router, you will probably have to use the full server name. Your mail server name can be displayed if you display the full header of one of your old email messages. aeleth
Resolve your mailserver address to its numerical (192.168.123.123) form, and use that form instead of the alphanumeric (server.mycompany.com) form that you configured Claris Emailer with. Here is a utility called "Mac TCP Watcher" that can resolve the address for you. Just click the DNS button and type the alphanumeric form in. http://download.cnet.com/downloads/0-10205-100-861594.html
