Newbies masterdonut Posted April 9, 2002 Newbies Posted April 9, 2002 I'm pretty new to FileMaker so I hope someone can help me. My work just purchased Filemaker 5.5 and filemaker server 5.5 and I would like to know the best way to go about using dial up remote access to access the database from a laptop or other computer when away from the office. any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, Nathan
LiveOak Posted April 10, 2002 Posted April 10, 2002 The best way to perform this access is to use either Timbuktu (Mac & PC) or PC Anywhere to allow you to control the office computer from your laptop. Having a remote client over a dialup connection FM to FM is VERY slow and can corrupt the database file (especially if you are not using FM Server as the host) if the connection is lost. -bd
Will Posted April 15, 2002 Posted April 15, 2002 Nathan: Are you using Windows 2000 Server to host FileMaker Server 5.5? If so you can use the built-in terminal services remote administration mode to connect to your server. If you are on a budget you can use VNC although the other options mentioned above might be more secure/robust.
