Connection Dropping thruogh DSL to Cable Modem

Featured Replies

Hi:

I have FMP Server 5 on Mac running TCPIP through a Cable modem. I have a satellite office connecting through tcp-ip to the server through DSL and after a few moments the connection is lost. Can someone offer any reasons for this continued drop in connection? And a resolution?

Thank you

I also want to add that I have the fastest DSL Service Sprint Offers which is 3.0m / 512k service and only two or three people at a time logging into Filemaker. There are about 20 people sharing the connection through the internet. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Try logging on from somewhere else. This might tell you if it is the cable modem end or not. Cable modems are less than ideal at the server end. A lot of cable modems block the uplink to 128 Kb/s, even though the downlink is 1.5 Mb/s. Remember 128 Kb/s is 0.128 basedT! Petty slow in a world of 100BasedT.

A data "pipe" is only as good as its smallest restriction. You 18 foot pipe is of little use if you have to squeeze through a 1/4" cable modem connection! wink.gif -bd
