Newbies Sebastiaan Posted November 26, 2000 Newbies Posted November 26, 2000 Hi, I'm wondering what the best way is to share a database. At least one computer must have remote access to the database. The problem I found is that with remote connection the complete database is send when a remote data request is done. Is it possible that only the requested data is send via the remote connection? I'm using FileMaker 4.0v3, do I need a FMpro 5 (server) ? Thanks, Sebastiaan.
LiveOak Posted November 27, 2000 Posted November 27, 2000 I think the best way to remotely share a FM database is to: 1) Designate one machine as the host with the databases to be hosted on its hard drive 2) Have a second machine as a guest over an ethernet network 3) Connect to the second machine remotely using Timbuktu and control the second machine This method keeps modem traffic to a minimum, consisting of mouse command and screen display information. If you are on PC's, you could also use PC Anywhere. -bd
